Review: Bad Neighbours (aka Neighbors [US title])

You may have seen the posters or watched Zac Efron and Seth Rogen on the tele promoting it - Bad Neighbours (or Neighbors as it's called elsewhere - Harold Bishop owns that territory here) is out in cinemas this week.

fun fact: I share a birthday with Zac Efron. This means we're going to get married.

For all those unaware of the premise, the film follows married parents (played by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) who do everything in their power to evict the frat house which has moved in next door - pranks, chaos and parties ensue.

Now this movie of course is not for everyone - I would not recommend seeing it with:
  • Grandparents
  • Parents
  • Your little siblings
  • Anyone sensitive to rude jokes.
 However, it does serve up:
  • The cutest baby in cinematic history.  Seriously, could leave you feeling broody.
  • Zac Efron's torso
  • Well written collection of characters - goofballs, douchebags and sideline people.
  • Laughs.
I feel like Bad Neighbours is the kinda film people expected to see when they bought a ticket to Spring Breakers based on the poster.

So is it any good?  Although definitely not a flick for everyone, it made me laugh a lot.

And while this is very much a movie marketed for laaaads, I really appreciated Rose Byrne's character in the film.  Often females only appear in male-orientated comedies to be the butt of jokes or as a conquest; her character was not boring, sensible or the one trying to assert order.  In fact, Byrne is equal to Rogen's character in terms of comedic value and both make up a realistic, funny couple.

There are some good cameos too - Lisa Kudrow, Andy Samberg, the Workaholic guys - all complimenting some very funny characters.  It was nice to see the hilarious Ike Barinholtz from my favourite TV show The Mindy Project on the big screen.  Plus Craig Roberts from Submarine crops up!

Overall it's definitely not a film for everyone's taste, and it's certainly not highbrow but it is entertaining and does deliver laughs!

Bad Neighbours is out Friday 2nd May.

Holla

So I've resurrected my 2009 blog!  But removed all the old content!  ....If I ever run for mayor, it'd be better if awkward photos of me showing off a sailor dress I bought on Ebay weren't in the public domain.  However, I've kept my blog name as I couldn't think of a better pun.  It's not that great a pun, I know, but I'm a bit possessive of it.

I stopped blogging when I went to uni, though when studying abroad kept an online account which reminded me of how much I enjoyed writing silly things and sending them into the abyss of the internet.  Now I'm living in London and having some adventures, I thought I'd re-join the bandwagon and write up some things.

I honestly don't know what else to write about in this here my new and first post, so I'll present Ori the Gnome Baking Mould which I bought from TK Maxx this week.  I went in with a friend to look for skirt but stumbled upon it - rather than laughing/frowning/walking past, went "oh my days, a garden gnome cake mould!" and took it up to the till.  When I got home I re-evaluated my purchase and don't quite know what came over me.  Maybe it was the post-cinema buzz (we saw Locke), or the chocolate high I was riding, or merely being unable to resist the cheeky face of Ori.

I kept the receipt... should I return Ori, or treasure him forever?
