An old dress of the mothers, Topshop bag (past season), Tiger earring NY

This dress isn't a perfect fit unfortunately! I'm huge at the hips (and thighs!) but have a pretty small waist which a lot of clothes shops and designs don't cater for :[ it's annoying because baggy clothes are extra unflattering! Do you find clothes shops fail to meet your preportions?

I also get irritated by the ranges of petite clothing but the lack of items in the tall range! (Just to make it clear that I feel that there should be large ranges for petite girls, but equal proportions for the taller ones too)

At 5"8 I'm only really standard sizing but with long legs I have to go for 'Tall' shorts or skirts because standard often look indecent; I have a Topshop voucher than needs spending but while every store I visit has both a petite section and a nice selection of shorts and skirts, few have a tall section! Even the one on Oxford Street had a small selection of rather uninspired items.

I had a female friend who was 6"3 and assumed she wore plain clothes because she felt uncomfortable with her height and didn't want to draw any further attention to herself but I'm starting to think it may have been somewhat due to the sheer lack of fun clothing for girls past standard sizing.

Do you have trouble finding clothes that fit or are flattering?

  1. I often experience that problem, I mean I hardly found clothes in my size, they are all in super smaaaaaaall size, kinda annoying but then I think maybe I should just make my own clothes, in that way, no one would ever wear the same clothes with me :D
Lovely dress by the way. You look so beautiful. And I'm in love with your chain necklace.

  2. This dress is gorgeous! I know what you mean though as I'm quite short, but not quite short enough for the petite topshop range so finding skinny jeans that fit is a nightmare! I have pretty wide hips as well so it can be annoying.. xx

  4. I'm short and find it difficult to buy jeans. I only own 2 pairs so if they ever bust, i'd hate to search for another pair that fit.

Your comment made me want to watch The OC! Might just do that after Dawsons Creek, the boyf has The Oc box set. perfect! x

  7. The print on the dress is so pretty :)
I don't have that much trouble finding clothes to fit me, I am kind of in the middle when it comes to width and height.
My friend however is so so tall yet very skinny, she always has trouble finding clothes.

  8. The pictures doesn't make the dress look like ti doesn't fit you at all, it actually looks stunning. I love the retro-ey style and it goes so well with the bag.

I'm sort of average height (5ft5) and size so I don't really have a problem with sizing, I just get annoyed when shops clearly don't follow the same guides. H&M why you make me fatter than I am?

  10. You look absolutely gorgeous in the fourth picture.
The dress is very pretty, such a shame it doesn't fit properly! And please don't stop wearing fun clothes because of your body, if you really want something you can always have it altered.

  11. Yeah, I think it's a matter of a good 'research'. I blame shops for having all these sizes that aren't really good for my figure but I guess I just have to look for clothes a bit longer and then I usually find something worth attention.
    This dress is gorgeous!♥

  13. I think that petite girls are much more from tall girls! and yes i don't feel that shops fulfill my taste...so i start to design and have sewed my own clothes. especially dresses!

  15. I love the combination of colors in this floral print, seriously, soooo nice! And I'm with ya on the sizing, my wide hips make it impossible for me to go near certain things, like pencil skirts and super-skinny jeans, but I too have a small waist so that results in all of the vintage dresses and high waisted skirts. There are times when I wish I could wear anything instead of having to stick to clothes that work for my body type. Urrgh. Thanks for your comment by the way :)

    cheers,

  20. That dress looks so pretty. It is really horrible that shops dont cater for all shapes and sizes! Its difficult for everyone to fit into a certain carbon copy.
